Kris Commons has a reputation as one of the best midfielders in League 1 and arguably outside the Premiership, but since ending speculation about his future by signing a new one year deal in the summer his form took a nose dive and he subsequently found himself on the subs bench.

Manager Colin Calderwood made a brave decision prior to the Port Vale game in relegating Commons to the bench. It was a decision that proved to be something of a turning point for the Reds, as they picked up their first win of the season. Since then KC has found himself a regular on the bench and few can argue that it was the right decision by the boss.

Forest have remained unbeaten in the League since the 2-0 win over Vale and it seems to have given KC the much needed kick up the backside he deserved, as his form has returned to such an extent that he’s scored twice in the last two games and been the difference between us winning and losing.

In a poll carried out by Vital Forest this week, 87% of fans said he should get his place back in the starting 11, with only 13% saying he should remain on the bench. One thing is for sure, Calderwood has some difficult decisions to make and the inclusion of KC is one of them. The competition for places is a good problem to have and makes a change to see them all battling for their names on the team sheet each week.
