Finally, Tottenham have found some form under new boss Juande Ramos as they slaughtered a hapless Wigan 4-0 on the weekend. There was also a big result for Alan Curbishly’s West Ham as they thrashed Derby 5-0. There was a horde of clean sheets over the weekend as well – but one keeper and a couple of defenders stood out more than the rest?

Goalkeepers: There were 7 clean sheet’s over the weekend, Green of West Ham, Jaaskelainen of Bolton, Hart of Man. City, James of Portsmouth, Van der Sar of Man. United, Schwarzer of Middlesbrough and Robinson of Spurs. Each of these goalkeeper’s earned themselves six Vital points for the weekend. However a cut above all of them was in form Liverpool goalkeeper Jose Reina. Reina punted a massive goal kick all the way through to Torres who managed to score from the movement, earning Reina a Key Contribution and a massive eight Vital points. The most in a single weekend for a keeper so far this season.

Defenders: Two big surprises at the top of the defenders table this weekend with a combined value of 6.5 they were definite bargains as well. Danny Higginbotham from Sunderland had scored a grand total of 1 point prior to this weekend, but his goal to set up a draw against Newcastle gifted the defender nine Vital points, taking him up to a grand total of 10. I don’t see too many knee jerk transfers happening there. Reading’s Nicky Shorey has been in good form and his late goal against Arsenal on Monday secured him seven Vital points.

Midfielders: More surprises here as it was not the expected Cristiano Ronaldo that leads the charts even though he scored a brace on the weekend. He was outplayed by Tottenham’s Jermaine Jenas who also managed to score a brace and set up a goal to earn 17 Vital points. West Ham’s Lee Bowyer would also have come out of the weekend with 17 points, but for a yellow card which saw his efforts of two goals and a key contribution reduced to 16 Vital points.

Strikers: The three strikers who earned top points over the weekend were Arsenal’s Adebayor, Chelsea’s Drogba and Tottenham’s Berbatov. Adebayor and Drogba both scored goals to go along with their starting appearances and earn them six Vital points, but Berbatov did not manage to find the back of the net but was instrumental in two of his side’s goals to also earn six Vital points.

With an international weekend coming up, there is a nice long break in the English Premier league for some of your players to have a well earned rest and attempt to recover from injury. Although you can make transfers it may be worth holding off until next week, you don’t want any surprise injuries to hamper one of your 20 wise decisions!
