Two weeks ago Coventry City striker and wannabe Forest player Leon Best handed in a transfer request after finding out his club were standing in the way of a move to his home town team.

Nottingham Forest made no secret of their desire to land Best and are reported to have had three bids for the player turned down by the Sky Blues. The final one being in the region of 1.5 million.

Best today told Sky Sports News. ‘The Forest thing is definitely put to bed now. I was flattered by the interest from my hometown club, who I have supported from my young days. There were a lot of things behind it, but now I am here, and here to stay. I never wanted to leave for leaving’s sake. There were other clubs interested, but I didn’t even look at them. I never fell out with anyone and it was a very stressful thing to go through.’

A week is clearly a long time in football and it’s surprising how things change. Only last weekend Best was being booed off the pitch by the Sky Blue’s faithful, only for him to bag a brace the following weekend and hailed a hero. Mind you a fortnight ago, I was right behind the board and manager of NFFC. That’s all changed as well. Funny old game, eh.
