Nathan Tyson today expressed his delight at getting back on the score sheet for Nottingham Forest – and warned League One that there is more to come once he regains full fitness.

The striker came off the bench to earn Forest a point at Rotherham with a late goal that secured a 1-1 draw.

It was his first goal since returning from medial ligament damage to his knee – and Tyson hopes there are plenty more to come, after revealing that he is putting in extra work in training to increase his speed.

‘I feel really sharp, I am about 90% fit. If I can do this when I am at this level, hopefully by the time I get to 100% I will be even better,’ he said.

‘I am running on adrenaline at the minute, particularly in reserve games. But I am working on getting quicker.

‘It is all about fast twitch muscles. My pace is not going to be with me for the rest of my life, so if I can work on getting faster now, maybe it will get me a few more goals.

‘I am not sure exactly how it works, but I am working on it with the coaching staff. I take the view that anything helps. It is mainly working on making my feet faster. I just do what I am told by the coaching staff, but if it improves me as a player then great.’

Tyson believes Forest’s unbeaten away record can be the catalyst for a continued title push in League One.

And, although he admits Forest were not at their best against Rotherham, he believes they have demonstrated the battling spirit required to sustain their position at the top of the table.

‘You can’t produce your best every week, but this just shows we can still get a point and stay top of the league,’ he said.

‘No doubt about it, the lads have put 100% in. We have got the draw, which is better than losing and we kept the unbeaten record away from home.

‘If we can maintain that for a while, it will do us no harm whatsoever. It will keep us at the top of the table. It is fantastic to have such a good away record, compared to last season.’

Last season Forest struggled to win at all away from home and Calderwood’s side has already picked up as many away victories as they did during the whole of that campaign.

Tyson believes a stronger defensive resolve has made a difference.

‘I don’t know what has changed, I really, really don’t know. Maybe it is because we are tighter at the back. We are more consistent in everything we do, we concentrate on not conceding goals, rather than going for all-out attack.

‘It is massive not to have lost (away). It was just unfortunate that we could not snatch all three points. We came close to it.’

He said of his late chance: ‘I stretched for the ball and put my groin out at the same time, which is not too nice. It is not a big problem.’
