Zach Clough is not in Aitor Karanka’s first team plans. The 23-year-old has not been included in the squad for the first three league games of the season and looks likely to depart before August 31st.

The Scottish Sun are reporting that Scottish Premiership teams Hibernian and Aberdeen are battling to sign the attacking midfielder on loan.

Teams North of the border can actually sign players permanently until the window closes at end of the month, but it seems any potential switch will be a temporary one.

Hibs manager Neil Lennon worked with Clough at Bolton when he was the manager of the Championship club before the player made the move to the City Ground in January 2017.

The forward returned on loan to the Trotters for the second half of last season, making nine appearances but starting just twice. His contract expires in 2021, and although he doesn’t feature in Karanka’s plans, it seems another loan is the likeliest outcome.
