Given how busy he is running his many businesses, it’s nice to see that Nottingham Forest isn’t just some side project for Evangelos Marinakis.
Speaking to BBC Radio Nottingham before Forest’s 3-0 defeat to the other football club that he owns, Olympiacos, Marinakis spoke of his long term vision for the club.
He said: “We believe there is a great potential with Nottingham Forest. What we would like to do is take it step-by-step, improve the infrastructure, rebuild the City Ground which is a very important project.”
As well as a general overview of his ambition for the club, Marinakis spoke of what his aims were for the team this season. There was one word during his interview that got a lot of Forest fans stirring, and that’s ‘promotion’.
“Promotion is our target, it’s not easy, but I don’t want to promise things, I want to deliver things.”
Now whilst a lot of owners of Championship clubs will talk about promotion, it appears as though it’s more the way he says it and the confidence in which he delivers it is what’s impressing Nottingham Forest fans. Given the strenuous relationship that they had with their last owner, it now looks as if they’ve found someone they can trust and believe in.
Hard not to be impressed. His passion and will to win shines through.
