Much has been said and written over the past few months about the support, or lack of it at the City Ground. Some of it has been justified and some not so, but next Saturday will be a day when the fans have to give the team on the pitch their 100% backing.

The game against Yeovil next week will hopefully be the final game of a long and arduous season for the Reds. It could also potentially be the first of four crucial games that may or may not see us in the Championship next time round. Whether it’s one game or four, we have to get behind the lads in each of them.

Calderwood has his detractors and with good reason in my opinion, but those doubts and criticisms of him and his style of play, have to be put to one side. There will be pressure enough on the team without our barracking and booing. Surely a vocal and vociferous home backing is better and more motivational than the negative alternative.

The club can also help in this matter by allowing the fans to do there bit. Just give us the Lower Brig for starters and that will ensure an electric atmosphere inside the ground. A bit less of the heavy handed approach from the fellas in yellow jackets would also help the situation. But maybe the latter is a little too much to ask.

The time for recriminations is after the final game, whenever that is and not before. It’s often said that the crowd can be a 12th man and we can be, but we have to be allowed to do it and not be subjected to the over zealous stewarding. The club should think hard about opening up the Lower Brig to us, it could work to their advantage. If they do their bit, I know we can do ours. Come on you Reds.
