Time For Forest Players To Stand Up And Be Counted

When things go bad at the City Ground, they go very bad and these past seven days for Forest have been as bad as any over the last ten years. The mood on Trentside is a little gloomy of late and that’s putting it very mildly indeed.

The week began with the second defeat in 7 days, with a 5-0 thumping at Burnley. On the back of that came yet more news of Forest players alledgedly doing what Forest players do best, with more stories of late night drinking and poor behaviour. That news was tempered, with the tale of the Hare returning home, to help us in our bid for Championship survival. Just as you thought things couldn’t get any worse they did, when Harewood decided to sign for todays’ opponents Wolves instead of us. In fairness to the Hare, the decision was a no brainer. The possibility of Prem football next season with Wolves, or a not so good time with us?

The failure to sign Harewood is just one example of the mess we’re in. It shows that the much maligned acquisition panel isn’t really doing it’s job and that calls to hand control of transfers to the gaffer, might not be such a bad idea after all. We spent the best part of a week trying to land our former hero, only for Wolves to come in at the death and take him from under our noses. You can’t blame them or the player for that.

The club made the unusual announcement on Friday, in telling us their bid for the Hare was unsucccessful. They blamed the player for a last minute change of heart, when they thought the deal was wrapped up. The sad fact is, that NFFC failed to land their man and Wolves did and in half the time.

The troublesome week at Forest shows no sign of ending, as Wolves stroll into to town for what on paper should be their easiest three points of the season. I’m hoping the lads give a response today and show that they have a little pride in what they do. The previous two performances indicate that they don’t and have shown that they couldn’t care less about this club. That attitude today will see us on the end of another grand tonking at the hands of the Championship leaders. It’s up to them to stand up and be counted now and at least put in a performance, that shows they are worthy of wearing the shirt.
