When Billy Davies was appointed as successor to Colin Calderwood, it’s fair to say his arrival was not met with universal approval amongst the fans. Many people in the media blamed that on his former connections with the Mutton Molestors, but in truth it was more down to his style of management and his own personality.

In his three short months at the City Ground, he’s gone along way to dispel both those myths, at least with this particular doubter. He’s shown a canny eye for a player, with the loan signings of Blackstock and Osbourne. Hopefully McSheffrey Gunter and Turner will prove equally astute. His personality has been abrupt, at times brutal, but also that of a man on a mission. He said at the time of his appointment, that his only job this season was to maintain our Championship status. He has alot of work still to do on that front to achieve that, but he is showing signs that the job will get done.

The fanbase has been split as to whether he’s the right man for the job, but he has at the very least done enough to warrant our backing. We can do our bit on that side and give the lads the vocal support they need on the pitch to help them over the finish line. Davies was right with what he said he had to do this season and it will be alot easier for him to attain with our support.

Davies praised the fans backing at the Wolves game and told the official site. ‘No doubt about it – the backing from the fans last Saturday was the best since I’ve been here, it was magnificent. I can’t speak highly enough about their reaction after the game. We will do all we can to keep supporters uplifted in the coming weeks, but they can play a huge part between now and the end of the season.’

We wont all agree with everything Billy Davies says and does, or the way he goes about it. But if he manages to keep us in the Championship, he’ll have done more than enough for us to cut him some slack at the start of the next campaign. In the meantime, it’s up to us to do our bit and give Davies and the team our 100% backing and support, between now and the end of the season.
