Reds’ boss Colin Calderwood has told youngster Matt Thornhill, that his red card against Charlton was unjust. The 19 year old was sent off in the game for a second bookable offence, in the 0-0 draw at the City Ground.

Calderwood told the official site. ‘I really didn’t think Matt deserved a yellow card for either incident. There is not a nasty bone in his body and there was nothing to suggest that there was anything in either challenge. But when a player is sent off for two bookings you can’t appeal against it. It’s a learning curve but not for Matt because he’s doing nothing wrong.’

Thornhill was given a standing ovation as he left the field by the fans, who also thought the decision was harsh. It’s a shame he can’t appeal the decision. Instead, he’ll just have to put up with it and accept what was a bad day at the office for referee Karl Evans.
