Right, I’ve seen all I need to see.
I spoke before the game on Tuesday that this could potentially be a huge game for Aro Muric as he looks to play his way back into the reckoning for the number one jersey at Nottingham Forest. However, after his display last night, I think that we should officially call time on his loan deal.
He came with high praise from Pep Guardiola, and perhaps he only views him as a good goalkeeper when he’s got world-class players in front of him, because he certainly hasn’t looked all that impressive since leaving the Etihad.
Granted Kosovo, despite starting off incredibly well in their group, aren’t exactly the greatest of sides in the world, and neither are Forest but some of his mistakes are down to him and him alone rather than who is in front of him.
Being caught in no man’s land for the first goal for instance, leaving his legs spread way too far apart for the second and not even trying to do anything for the third, leaving his defender in a disastrous position.
Whilst he did save a Harry Kane penalty midway through the second half, his performance in the first 45 minutes was enough for me to officially put the final nail in the coffin of his Nottingham Forest career, and judging by the fans reactions, it seems they agree with me.
Whilst there is every chance that he could go on and have a fantastic career in England despite the rough start, much in the same way David De Gea and Heurelho Gomes managed to sort themselves out after their dreadful starts to life in British football, I can’t see it being with us. Perhaps this was a case of bringing him in a year too soon into his development.
