We are reportedly interested in signing Marcus Maddison from Peterborough. The Football Insider reported that we were one of three Championship clubs looking to recruit the 24-year-old.

The Posh’s chairman Darragh MacAnthony has confirmed that two teams have already activated the midfielder’s release clause, but he hasn’t revealed which teams are in for the player.

With the news of our reported pursuit of Maddison, I decided to set up a poll to gauge opinion among the fan base over whether we should make a move for the player.

The majority of those asked felt that we should focus on other areas of the pitch:

It’s not a surprising response considering the recruitment of the likes of Joao Carvalho, Soudani and Goncalves already in this transfer window. With a buyout fee that is slightly above £1m, a move for Maddison would still have been tempting, but I do agree with the majority that the club must now look to strengthen other positions.

What do you think? Is Maddison one attacking midfielder too far? Let me know in the comments.
