A misplaced word can often cause a backlash, especially in football when tensions and disappointments are high and given the performance by Nottingham Forest in last night’s embarrassing defeat to Burton Albion that was certainly the case.
Losing 3-2 at the Pirelli Stadium to our League One opponents in the fourth round of the competition yesterday evening, the prize on offer was a quarter-final berth for the first time in a quarter of a century for the club – and we blew it in some fashion.
Most fans accept the final scoreline could’ve been worse as well given our overall showing on the night.
The clubs’ social media team sent out the following Tweet following the fulltime whistle and plenty felt there could’ve been a touch more honesty to the description of the game.

Just shut up and go to bed without any supper, the lot of you. If you were a meal deal youâd be plain ham, ready salted and a bottle of water.

Battling Brewers? They outplayed us all over the pitch. Give them some credit.

Well done Burton the magic of the cup

Probably the fans fault. They put the players off by out-singing the home fans throughout.

Battling Brewers? They were by far playing better football than us, and they showed up, we didnât, so piss poor!????

Shite result… we werenât nearly good enough.
Every credit to Cloughy and Byron though, they were very well organised!— Tom Wheatman (@Twheatman) October 30, 2018
Can you please try to report accurately..!! Your comment of Reds knocked out by battling Brewers can be replaced by âA well below par Forest are embarrassed by a League 1 club who deserved to knock out Redsâ
— Ian Harding (@IanHarding111) October 30, 2018
They werenât battling Brewers, they passed, pressed us high up and outplayed us. Condescend much? We played into their hands.

Battling Brewers? More like outplayed by the league below Brewers

There’s obviously a lot of love amongst fans for Nigel Clough and that obviously features in how some have taken the defeat, but it’s still good to see the acknowledgement given to Burton as it’s a small piece of history for them.
Fair play Cloughie but time for Forest to buck up.
