This might seem a brave call, but I think it would be the right thing to do.

I spoke yesterday about how I feel that this weekend’s game against Barnsley is a great opportunity for the club to rest some players with a look ahead to Arsenal next week.

It’s fair to say that Barnsley haven’t exactly had the best of times in the Championship so far this season. Other than their opening day victory over Fulham, they haven’t won a single game since and have only managed to get two draws in that timespan. Therefore, whilst I’m not saying that it will be a walkover for us, I’m confident that we can take a few precautions here and there and still come out on top.

So here are the changes that I would make compared to the last time out against Swansea.

As I also mentioned yesterday, I would make some changes to the centre-back pairing and introduce Chema into the fold alongside Joe Worrall, both for this game and the Arsenal game. I’d carry that on that adjustment by bringing in Jack Robinson at left-back to replace Yuri Ribeiro for Barnsley. In midfield, I think this would be a great opportunity to give John Bostock a role in the starting line-up protecting the back four instead of Ben Watson. I’d also take out Joao Carvalho and replace him with Tiago Silva. It’s not that they bring anything special to the table that could help us beat Barnsley, but it’s just a case of giving first-team regulars a bit of a rest.

Whilst upfront I personally think that we need to give Lewis Grabban a bit of a break. The Forest centre-forward department isn’t very deep at the moment, but we need to use what we can. Which is why I would have Sammy Ameobi leading the line, however if he has recovered from his injury, then I think it would be the perfect opportunity to give Rafa Mir a go at spearheading the attack. Sabri Lamouchi has said that we need to be careful with how we use Grabban, and this is a great time to let him recharge his batteries.

Again these aren’t wholesale changes, but just enough to keep a few of the important players fresh ahead of the game against Arsenal next week.

What about you? How many changes would you like to see made against Barnsley? Or would you not make any changes at all?
