Both Forest and Southampton go into the final game of the season with nothing to play for, except pride. Southampton, already down thanks to going into admistration, will be well backed by over 2,000 travelling fans intent on spoiling what should be a party atmosphere for the surviving Reds’, infront of a sellout City Ground.

Forest survived by the skin of their teeth and can thank a midweek win by Reading over Norwich for that. It’s been too close for comfort this season and whilst we will be jumping up and down celebrating, we should spare a thought for the army of travelling Saints. It’s no fault of their fans, that the club finds it self in the mess it is. Thanks for that goes to former Chairman Rupert Lowe, who will be sitting in the Directors Box watching the game as a guest and friend of our very own benefactor, Nigel Doughty. That man Lowe, will be greeted with a chorus of boos from the visitors and richly deserved it will be too. He’s managed to take them from the Premiership, to the verge of bancruptcy. We should be very thankful to Mr. Doughty.

On to the game and Forest have a few injury concerns ahead of it. The perpetually injured Nathan Tyson misses out yet again, with a scratch on his knee and our on loan keeper Iain Turner is out with a broken toe. This will apparently be the swansong for old father time, Ian Breckin, as he will be leaving the club. Tata then.

The last time we played Southampton at home was more than ten years ago in the Prem and that one ended all square at 1-1. Earlier this season, we got a rare away win and ran out 2-0 winners at St. Mary’s.

So we live to fight another day and can hopefully look forward to a busy summer. Perhaps we have now turned the corner and the good times can finally return. But we should spare a thought for those Saints, because it could so easily have been us. We know how bad it is in League 1, these poor sods have it all to come. Good luck Southampton, but let’s not forget….Come on you Reds’!
