The World According To Vegas

Well I have been back in Blighty for almost a week and thought it time to pen my initial impressions of the Mother Land.

They say you cannot choose your family, well sometimes I wish I could – particularly my dad. Due to circumstances beyond my control (solicitors and estate agents are the my new targets of hatred, second only to the rams) I am having to reside with my parents for a couple of weeks whilst my house gets sorted out. Upon the return of the prodigal son, the light of his life, his first-born son, what kind of reception do you think I received? A nice welcome home son, or lets go the pub for a beer to celebrate your return? Sadly not. The first words out of my father`s mouth, get the kettle on, I want a cuppa! – welcome home!

Many years ago Chris Rea wrote a song entitled the road to hell, which was allegedly about the M25. After this weekend I have to doubt this – it was about the A52! The UK has a passion for speed cameras and for some reason the A52 has more than its fair share and I have a feeling that my nice clean license will not stay as such for very long should I continue to drive that road. The other thing I didn`t miss was caravans, now returning home in the month of December, I would have expected to see none of these articles which are, in my opinion, the most annoying thing on UK roads. Oh how wrong I was. Moron in a Volvo, towing a caravan down the A52 at 10 mph below the speed limit with a queue of traffic a mile long behind him – did he pull over and let us pass, hell no. Now I have seen some things in my time but I have never seen a caravan overtake anything but today I did and to make matters even worse it was a MOTORBIKE!!!!!! Now I ride bikes and they are my second passion and I would hang my head in shame and never ride again if that happened to me (Never ever ever ever would though), but this chap was riding along at 40mph happy as a sand boy on a sports-bike. I am still in shock.

Well I suppose I should mention this week`s results, Bournemouth was a blip, but the lads responded as we all hoped and expected they would against Crewe. I refuse to get into the Grant Holt/Neil Harris debate again but it was clear from the commentary that Grant gave us options up front and his goal was a cracker. Nathan showed the rest of the league that he is back and will terrorise defenders for the rest of the season and I would not be surprised to see him grab 25 goals. Sammy Clingan continues to impress me and I think he is going to be a key part of our promotion push.

Well I am back, and life is good. Bring on Salisbury on Tuesday and Orient on Saturday, and I am certainly hoping for another good week. Sometimes being a Forest Fan gets no better.
