Congratulations to Julian Bennett for being voted the Vital Forest Player of the Year for the 2007/8 season.

Jules has probably been the most improved player in a Reds shirt this campaign and is a deserved winner. His marauding runs down the wing and his uncompromising tackles, along with his never say die attitude has made him a favourite with the fans.

It’s a credit to the player that he was widely tipped for a season on the bench, after the arrival of Matty Lockwood from Orient in the summer. But he hasn’t allowed the highly thought of defender a look in and when given the chance at the start of the season because of an injury to Lockwood, Bennett seized it. This caps off a great season for our local hero, who earlier this week was named in the PFA’s Team of the Year.

He’s won this accolade by some distance, polling 31% of the vote, with Sammy Clingan coming 2nd with 21%. Third place went to Wes Morgan with 12%. To view the poll results in full, see below.
