The Keeper hunt is on

Colin Calderwood has lined up a short-list of potential signings to put pressure on Rune Pedersen next season.

The Nottingham Forest manager is targeting a second keeper to provide a battle for places with the Dane following the departure of Paul Gerrard.

And, although he says he will hold fire on signing any outfield players until he has had the chance to assess his squad, he has made a second keeper his priority.

‘Rune played last season, but we are looking for a goalkeeper with some experience,’ said Calderwood.

‘We need to provide some competition in the position.

We have highlighted four or five goalkeepers on our list.’

Calderwood would like to sign a keeper permanently but may have to rely on a loan.

‘There is the possibility of a loan, but there is no manager who will guarantee you a loan right now,’ he said.

‘The reality is that we are probably going to sign somebody permanently, because then you avoid doubt.

‘If there is an injury in your own camp you can do something about it, we know where we are.

‘If there is an injury in somebody else’s camp, that might affect us.

‘Ideally we will get somebody in before pre-season.

If it does stretch beyond that, then you start to look more and more at a loan.’
