This was the penultimate weekend of the season and one in which the Reds’ hoped to ensure our Championship survival, but apart from Southampton booking the second relegation spot, nothing else was decided.

Forest earned what could prove to be a vital point on a bog of a pitch at Blackpool and could have ran away with all three, but for some excellent goalkeeping from Paul Rachubka. Dexter Blackstock, who continues to impress opened the scoring for Forest, with a well worked goal on 9 mins. Former Red, Brett Ormerod levelled before half time and in the process earned the home side a draw and with it, guaranteed safety for the Seasiders. Even though the homeside went down to 10 men, with the second half sending off of Evatt, the lads couldn’t find a way through a dogged Blackpool defence.

Thanks to draws for Barnsley, Plymouth and Southampton, we could have the luxury of going into the last game of the season with the Saints already safe. That all depends on Reading beating Norwich on Monday at Carrow Road, live on Sky at 7.45pm. Come on you Royals!

It was never going to be a nice and easy last day of the campaign, though it still could be. Regardless of how things work themselves out next Sunday, Forest have it in their own hands to decide their own fate. A win on Sunday over relegated Southampton, will guarantee our Championship status for next season. So it’s a big well done to Billy The Scruff, for at least getting us this far. He did say his greatest achievement in football, would be keeping us up. The fat lady might not be singing just yet, but she is is going through her warm up routine. Let’s just hope she’s not singing for us.
