According to Nottingham Forest manager Billy Davies, ‘what goes around, comes around’ and that was never more true, than it was yesterday, following his sides 1-0 win at home to Swansea City.
The players and management of the Swans, departed the City Ground not only pointless, but also furious with referee Colin Webster and some of his decision making during the game.
Swansea can justifiably feel aggrieved at missing out on a second half penalty, that would have given them the lead in the game and possibly all three points in this 3rd versus 4th clash in the table. As things turned out, it wasn’t to be their day, as the Reds’ snatched the win and with it 2nd place in the Championship table.
Forest have been on the receiving end of their fair share of dodgy refereeing decisions this season and can lay claim to a fair few stonewall penalty claims of their own. So maybe it was our turn to experience the benefit of some woeful decision making by the officials for once.
Darren Pratley’s claims for a penalty in this game may have been justified, but he is in part to blame for the refereeing blunder, because he did try to con the ref. Pratley fell to his knees, as if broken in two under a challenge from defender Chris Cohen. Although Cohen did make contact, it was the slightest of touches and Pratley milked it for all it was worth. I personally thought the player was odds on to score and was surprised to see the penalty claim turned down. But, he did go to ground as if he’d been scythed in two by Cohen and it was this over dramatisation that probably cost him in the end.
The Swans also claim that Luke Chambers’ match winning goal, should have been cancelled out for being offside. That claim is not as clear cut as the penalty and is open to interpretation. Either way, we enjoyed our slice of luck and the Swans will probably have a bit of their own to enjoy before the season ends. As Billy Davies says himself, what goes around, does indeed come around.
