Swans Give Forest A 3-2 Thrashing

Swansea City ran out deserved winners at the Liberty Stadium today, after beating Forest 3-2. It was a score line that flattered the Reds’, who were well beaten in every department by their hosts. This was a game that the home side had won from the very first kick of the game, as they dictated the tempo and controlled the play, from the first minute up until the last.

After dominating the early stages, the Swans took the lead on 21 minutes. Scott Sinclair waltzed his way through the Forest defence and scored a great individual goal to put the home side 1 up. Swansea didn’t sit back on their lead either and continued to pose problems for the Reds` defence. Things were to go from bad to worse for Forest, when Swansea doubled the lead on 26 minutes. This time, it was on loan Chelsea striker Fabio Borini to be gifted a goal, as he fired in a shot from close range.

The Reds` were being run ragged and couldn’t get a foothold in the game. Kris Boyd had two chances to get Forest back in the game, but his efforts were to go unrewarded….for now at least.

Borini was having an inspired debut for the home side and saw another shot come back off the post. That would have put the game out of sight for the Reds`, but they somehow grabbed a lifeline before the break, to keep their hopes alive. Kris Boyd got his first goal for the club, when he slotted in a Tyson cross from 6 yards out. Despite being played off the park for much of the half, Forest went into the interval with at least some hope of clawing their way back into the game.

The 2nd half started in much the same fashion as the 1st, with Swansea on the attack and Forest struggling to contain them. Camp was called into action early on, when he had to push Dobbie`s effort over the bar for a corner to keep the Swans at bay. It was more good work from Dobbie, that gave Swansea a 3rd. His cross into a crowded box was met by Borini, who had the simple task of side footing the ball into the net. 3-1 and just about game over for us. It could have been 4 soon after, but a Dyer shot, was well saved by Camp.

Billy Davies’ final substitution in the game, was a forced one, when Julian Bennett made his first appearance in a Forest shirt for nearly two and a half years. He replaced Konchesky, who went off injured, with 10 minutes of the game remaining. Just as the game was drawing to a close, Anderson pulled one back in injury time to give the travelling support the forlorn hope of making their efforts worthwhile. At 3-2 and still time on the clock, the Reds` for the first time in the game looked like they might be able to conjure something up a nick a point from the game and it almost happened with the last kick of the game, when an Anderson header glanced the post. It would have been harsh on Swansea to say the least, but the same thing happened to us against Preston a few weeks ago, so you imagine these things even themselves out. Not today though, because Forest were soundly beaten by a better side on the day.

The international break has hopefully arrived at just the right time. That`s what Forest fans will be hoping, because with only 8 games left to claim that 2nd and elusive automatic spot, time is fast running out. The fat lady isn’t singing for the Reds` just yet, but she is clearing her throat and warming up.
