This was never going to go down well regardless of who said it.
However, when you consider whose mouth the words were coming out of, then that just adds a little bit of extra spice to the matter. Steve McClaren has given his thoughts on the Championship promotion race and it’s not exactly good news for the Reds in his mind.
Speaking on Sky Sports News (26/2/20, 10:27am), the former Forest boss said that he didn’t think Sabri Lamouchi’s men would be able to maintain their push because they only have the one way of playing:
“That worries me a bit little bit because that’s kind of all Forest are. I think they are more than that, they can play more football. The likes of West Brom, Leeds can do both. They can keep possession, but also cannot keep possession, defend and also in transition. They have got everything, but Forest are a bit one way to win, and they are doing it very well, they are getting results.”
Can Nottingham Forest still finish in the top two?
Yes
No
Which is a little bit rich of McClaren to be saying, seeing as he didn’t exactly have the best of records at the City Ground when he was in charge, so it was only natural that fans were more than happy to take a shot at him when these comments came out.
Lol, better than when he was manager

To be fair, he never found a way to win when he was at Forest, so we're doing better than when he was here for starters!

Shtupid McClaren.
He sat next to Ferguson for a bit and then got a Dutch team to win a friendly.— Amadeus vanPegg (@vanpegg) February 27, 2020
Maybe he would have been better off keeping his mouth shut on this occasion.
