Steve McClaren – You’re Hired

Less than 24 hours after the official announcement that Billy Davies was given the sack, Nottingham Forest have been quick to inform us that Steve McClaren will be his replacement.

The 50 year old former Engaland and Middlesbrough boss has been given a 3 year contract by the club.

Chief Executive Mark Arthur told the official site. ‘The club moved quickly to secure his services as it is rare for a manager and coach of his undoubted calibre to be available.’

McClaren In Management:

1995-1999: Worked as Assistant Manager at Derby County under Jim Smith.

1999-2001: In 1999 he was appointed as Assistant Manager at Man Utd, alongside Sir Alex Ferguson. During his time at Old Trafford, he helped United to win 2 Premier League titles, a Champions League victory and the FA Cup.

2001-2006: In 2001 McClaren was appointed manager of Middlesbrough. Boro finished 14th in his first season and 11th in the second. In 2004 he won the League Cup, after Boro beat Bolton 2-1 in the final. In the 2004/5 season Boro finished the campaign in 7th place, their highest league placing since 1975. They also made it to the last 16 of the UEFA Cup. His final season on Teeside saw them struggle to a 14th place finish in the table. At the same time as managing Boro, he was Assistant to Sven Goran Eriksson with England.

2006-2007: McClaren took over the reigns with the England national squad, following the resignation of Eriksson. His time as England boss is best forgotten really. 18 games in 16 months is the shortest time any manager has been involved with the England team to date.

2008-2010: After a brief spell out of the game, McClaren took charge at Dutch side Twente. In his first season with Twente they finished as runners up in the league. In 2010, Twente won the title for the first time in their history, but he was to leave the club at the end of the season.

2010-2011: He left Holland to become the first Englishman to manage in the German Bundesliga with Wolfsburg. His time in Germany was shortlived and after spending a considerable sum and a run of poor results, he was sacked in February 2011.

13 June 2011: Appointed manager of Nottingham Forest.
