Stats: Changed Forest Side Crashes Out Of The EFL Cup To League One Opposition

|

With Nottingham Forest securing a hard-fought point against Leeds United in Saturday evening’s late Championship kick off, we took a break from league action this evening and headed to the Pirelli Stadium to face Burton Albion – and former player Nigel Clough – in the EFL Cup fourth round.

Manager Aitor Karanka made a number of changes to the starting XI as expected with a quick turnaround in fixtures and it was definitely a game we should’ve been looking to win reasonably comfortably.

You would, however, think a Forest fan would know better than type such words.

Forest largely had the better of the game in the opening 45 minutes aside from a missed Burton penalty but we went into the half-time break scoreless. Burton came out the better following the restart though and took the lead in the 52nd minute with Saidy Janko credited with an own goal and at that stage, although we had possession, they had taken over when it came to attempts on and off goal.

They took a two goal advantage in minute 64 before Lewis Grabban again made it a one goal game. Getting a third inside of the final ten minutes of the match set up a nervy ending and Arvin Appiah did make a game of it, scoring our second in stoppage-time.

3-2 at the full-time whistle and our EFL Cup journey comes crashing to an end.
