Matty Cash was heavily criticised by some supporters despite Nottingham Forest beating Bolton Wanderers 1-0 on Sunday afternoon. The 21-year-old has played in a number of positions under Martin O’Neill this season and was given central role in midfield over the weekend. He wasn’t at his best at the City Ground, however, which led to him being blasted on social media.

Against Bolton, Cash played a full 90 minutes, made 69 touches, 48 passes with 90% accuracy, created one chance, blocked two shots, whipped in two crosses, won one aerial duel, had two shots, made two tackles and interception. It’s worth noting, however, that the Englishman failed to find a teammate with his crosses and didn’t register a shot on target. He also gave away two fouls.

Cash has made 41 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring and creating nine goals. His goal output has slowed down considerably in recent months, however, with the 21-year-old scoring only one goal in 2019 and making one assist all season. Cash has been used at right wing-back, central midfield and right-wing and hasn’t been able to find any consistency for some time.
