With new boss Martin O’Neill going into his full season in charge, he will want to create ‘his’ squad, rather than just working with what he inherited, and it appears as if he’s already started that process with Algerian forward Halil Soudani on his way to Olympiacos.
The forward has only been with the club for one season and despite a good start, with two goals in his first six games a leg injury suffered in mid-November during a League Cup game with Burton Albion, ruled him out for the remainder of the season.
Shame he picked up such a serious injury. He’s one of the few players who actually has value and we can get a fee for. In the age of FFP makes sense for him to leave if he’s only going to be a squad player, albeit a decent one.

Shame he got injured. Looked ok.

Obviously O’Neill didn’t want to be lumbered with someone that he both didn’t sign and can’t be trusted to stay healthy, so as a result he has been allowed to leave the City Ground.
Taking to Twitter when the news broke, Nottingham Forest fans weren’t quite sure how to react to the news. Whilst some thought he looked like a talented player who offered potential to their side, others were glad to see him go, hoping that a decent fee will be coming their way at the very least, whilst others were unsure whether or not one bad injury like his automatically brands you as ‘injury prone’.
Algerian Jamie Mackie, recoup any money we can

Wanted him to stay…. think he had a lot more to offer

Imagine this will be undisclosed. But if we can get the 2-3 mil we paid then we cannot complain too much

Shame about Soudani, thought he was the type of forward we really needed. On to the next… #nffc

I think it’s a shame Soudani’s going. Had bad luck with one severe injury (which doesn’t make him ‘injury prone’) and looked to have something about him. If Murphy does go too then we need at least two new strikers, if not three. #NFFC

Soudani off then.
Good move.
32 soon. Clearly injury prone..
Although looked to have abit of something about him need players who can play 30-40 games a season.
Hopefully recoup the fee we paid but doubt it. Sure it will be structured in a way that will benefit both clubs #nffc— DNOnMAZ9 (@DNOnMAZ9) June 17, 2019
