Gboly Ariyibi is expected to be on his way out of Nottingham Forest this summer after being deemed surplus to requirements, but his next destination had been unknown due to a lack of updates.

After a successful loan spell at Motherwell last season, the Scottish Premiership side were keen to sign Ariyibi permanently but hadn’t made much progress. Motherwell chief executive Alan Burrows revealed that the two sides are in “constant contact” despite not being any closer to completing a deal.

As per Nottinghamshire Live, Burrows said: “We’d love to bring him back for sure. We’re in constant contact with Forest about trying to see if we can work something out. There are various nuances that don’t make it simple, but we’ll be as patient as we can be.”

Ariyibi scored and created seven goals in 18 games for Motherwell last season and made a big impression on the fanbase. Manager Stephen Robinson admitted in May that he wanted to sign the USA u23 international, but time will tell if the move can be finalised.

The right-winger doesn’t appear to have a future at Forest, having failed to make a single first-team appearance since joining from Chesterfield in January 2017, but Motherwell aren’t making much headway yet. Aribiyi’s deal has 12 months to run, so Forest will be keen to cash in on the player rather than lose him for nothing next year.
