Motherwell manager Stephen Robinson has revealed his side are “desperately trying” to sign Gboly Ariyibi this summer. The 24-year-old spent the last five months on loan at Fir Park and contributed seven goals in 18 appearances.

As per Nottinghamshire Live, Robinson said: “We’re desperately trying to keep him and negotiating with Forest. We’ve got a lot of players to sign and we’re actively trying to do that.”

Ariyibi doesn’t appear to have a future at Nottingham Forest, having failed to make a single appearance since joining from Chesterfield in January 2017 and being loaned out to three sides in the last two years.

The USA u23 international had temporary moves at MK Dons (July 17, 2017 – January 17, 2018), Northampton Town (January 19, 2018 – April 6, 2018) and Motherwell (January 7, 2019 – May 31, 2019), and could move on permanently this summer.

Forest need to trim their squad as they’re overstocked with fringe players, and Ariyibi may be open to a departure due to the lack of minutes in the East Midlands. He became popular in a short space of time in Scotland and has rejuvenated his career at Motherwell.

Aribiyi didn’t have the same impact at MK Dons and Northampton like he did with Motherwell, but it’s unknown if he’s fully on board with turning the loan move permanent. He could wait and see if other offers come his way.
