Savage Hypocrisy Is A Bit Much To Take

I was deliberately steering clear of commenting on the post match scenes at the City Ground on Saturday, but now feel compelled to, after reading exactly what Derby County captain and scarf waver in Chief Robbie Savage had to say on the matter.

Savage has never been too far away from controversay himself and he’d probably do well to cast his mind back to a sunny afternoon last February, when his own behaviour was called into question, when he performed his scarf waving antics on the City Ground pitch.

It seems that Nathan Tyson and his corner flag celebrations have got poor old Robbie wound up, just as he wound up the City Ground crowd himself in February.

Speaking to the NEP Savage moaned. ‘It was disgraceful. We have not had a problem with Nathan Tyson, he is a good player and scored a good goal. And if he goes and celebrates with his own fans at the end everybody shakes hands. But to do it in front of our fans, especially after what happened in midweek at West Ham, that is not right.
If he grabbed the corner flag and went to the Trent End where it is full with Forest fans then not a problem. They have won the game, fair play. It could have caused a riot, well, it nearly did.’

Robbie Savage ought to take a look at the video evidence of what happened (and there’s alot of it), because he will then see that Tyson is running past the away fans and doesn’t even look in their direction. He will also see that it was actually one of his own players (Dean Leacock) who started the brawl that then ensued.

According to Savage, it’s OK to perform like an arse if you’re Robbie Savage, but not if you’re someone else and especially not on your own ground, after humiliating your biggest rivals. Perhaps it’s time to shut up Mr. Savage. You’ve shown yourself to be nothing more than a hypocrite.

The FA have now said they are going to perform an investigation, following the events after the game. I hope they look at what happened last season and I hope common sense prevails. Somehow I don’t think it will.
