Rumours Plenty – Signings Nil

The release of Paddy Gamble to Stalybridge Celtic on a season long loan is the 11th departure out of the City Ground gates, since the season ended.

Now whilst most supporters would agree that seeing the backs of these players is a good thing, (they hardly covered themselves in glory when wearing the Garibaldi) they did expect to see some quality by way of replacements. I don’t for one minute think the club is doing nothing about the matter, infact I am sure that Colin Calderwood and CO. are working overtime to secure the necessary signatures. The problem though, is that the clock is a ticking, with the new season only a few short weeks away.

Ideally Forest would have had a shiny new squad to start back for pre season training, in an effort to get to know each other and discover what being at NFFC is all about. By the time this piece is written we may well have made a signing or two, but as things stand, the first team playing squad is woefully thin and in dire need of additions.

The release of Paddy Gamble, who was seen as cover for Paul Smith, shows how desperately short we are on the keeper front alone. The club only have youngsters Dale Roberts and Shane Redmond to call upon to deputise if Smith gets injured. Fair enough we can recall Gamble if required, but it does highlight the situation.

We have been linked with every player registered on the Football League database, but have so far secured only one, namely Neil Lennon. He has a massive job on his hands if he’s the only newcomer. Still, it’s too early to panic isn’t it?
