Jordan Smith got a lot of stick following his sending off against Bury on Tuesday.  Certainly, not all of the criticism was warranted or even fair, but there’s no doubt he is struggling somewhat at the moment.

Confidence and match sharpness are key for a goalkeeper, and it’s clear our no.12 may need some time away on loan to regain both.

I polled supporters about whether we should offload the 23-year-old before the window closes on August 31st, and over two-thirds think that we should:

With Aitor Karanka having recruited Luke Steele on a free transfer this summer, it does give the club some scope for loaning out Smith at least until the New Year.

Since losing his place to Costel Pantilimon in February, the keeper has played just one first-team game; the aforementioned Carabao Cup tie earlier this week. Personally, I think he just needs some minutes on the pitch either in League One or with another Championship club.
