Nottingham Forest will let right-back Matty Cash leave the club for a fee of around £12million this summer, amid interest from Southampton, a report from The Sun has claimed.

Cash enjoyed another outstanding campaign at The City Ground last season, but the club’s failure to win promotion to the Premier League appears to have left the defender’s future up in the air.

According to the latest reports, Southampton are keen to sign the 23-year-old, as they look to add an extra attacking influence down the right-hand side of their lineup.

It is thought that Forest will accept offers of around £12million for Cash, who is also said to be attracting attention from Southampton’s Premier League rivals West Ham.

Is £12million a fair price for Cash?

As things stand, there are three years remaining on Cash’s contract with Forest, securing his future at The City Ground until the end of the 2022/23 season, and putting the club in a strong position to negotiate any offers that come in for the full-back.

There is no doubt that this would be a major blow for Forest.

Cash was a key player for Sabri Lamouchi’s side again this season, and you feel he could be crucial to any hopes they have of a promotion push again next season, making this a big concern.

Indeed, given the popularity he holds amongst the club’s fanbase, you cannot imagine this is a deal that will go down particularly well around The City Grond.

You also feel that £12million nay be slightly on the cheap side for a player of Cash’s ability in today’s market, although it could still provide useful funds for a replacement for Cash, and potentially strengthening the squad in other areas of the pitch as well.
