Nottingham Forest are ready to sell midfielder Joao Carvalho in the summer, according to reports.

The 22-year-old has struggled for game time during the current campaign and manager Sabri Lamouchi is looking to offload him, despite featuring for 72 minutes in Friday’s 3-0 defeat to Millwall.

Despite making 22 Championship appearances this season, only nine of them have been starts and has played just 840 minutes, as per TransferMarkt. According to The Sun on Sunday (08/03, page 59), Carvalho’s future at the club could come to an end, with the Reds prepared to sell him to the Europa League outfit Olympiakos for £15m.

Will Joao Carvalho leave Forest this summer?

No

Carvalho is the club’s record signing with the Portugal U21 International joining the club for £13.2m in 2018, and Lamouchi would be looking to make a small profit on the attacking midfielder.

Having been linked with a loan move the Turkish side Trabzonspor, a deal did not materialise and he remained at the City Ground, as per Fotospor.

Carvalho has found himself down the pecking order during the current campaign, compared to the 2018/19 campaign where he scored four goals and provided eight assists in 38 appearances. Ben Watson and Joe Worrall don’t look like they will be dropped anytime soon, having made 37 outings each in central midfield. Joe Lolley and Tiago Silva have also been actively used, which puts the Portuguese man as low as fifth in Lamouchi’s order.

Unfortunately, it hasn’t worked out for Carvalho. He has been nowhere near as effective with his attacking play compared to his teammates, managing an average of 1.1 shots per game, 0.6 key passes and .0.5 crosses, as per Whoscored. This is significantly less than Lolley, achieving 2.6 shots per game, 1.5 key passes and 1.2 crosses.

As a result, Forest would be wise to reinvesting in the squad to bring better players in next summer. If the report is correct and we make a small financial loss, it wouldn’t be the end of the world.
