According to Ian Orr & Scott Burns of the Daily Record, Nottingham Forest ‘may swoop’ for Ben Gibson. The 26-year-old could be on his way out of Burnley after struggling for playing time in his debut season at Turf Moor.

Gibson has made only five appearances for the Clarets since his 2018-move from Middlesbrough, spending half of 2018/19 sidelined following surgery on a hernia. He spent the second half of the campaign being stuck on the bench.

The £40k-per-week defender finds himself behind James Tarkowski and Ben Mee in the pecking order under Sean Dyche and may have to leave to get first-team football in 2019/20.

Forest are looking to capitalise on the situation and could make a move for Gibson if they fail to sign Scott McKenna. The Reds may have to offload one or two players to ensure the squad doesn’t get too bloated.

Sabri Lamouchi already has Michael Dawson, Tobias Figueiredo, Joe Worrall, Yohan Benalouane, Alexander Milosevic, Michael Hefele and Jack Robinson to choose from, so the team needs trimming before Forest play their first game of the campaign.

Hefele has been shown the door while Benalouane may have an uncertain future too.
