Report: Nottingham Forest linked with right-winger, could join on a free transfer

|

According to Pete O’Rourke of the Football Insider, Nottingham Forest are interested in Gavin Massey and will have to battle Derby County to procure his signature this summer. Massey is out of contract at Wigan at the end of the season and will be available on a free transfer.

The 26-year-old has contributed six goals in 15 Championship starts, creating 15 chances, having a 44% dribble success rate, has averaged a tackle (19) or interception (9) every 42 minutes, has won 15 aerial duels (33%) and has whipped in 27 crosses.

With Massey’s contract expiring in the coming weeks, Forest could have a lot of competition to sign him. Derby could look to bring the right-winger to the iPro Stadium if they fail to get promoted to the Premier League while Queens Park Rangers are also interested.

Next season, Martin O’Neill will have Matty Cash, Joe Lolley and Ben Osborn who can operate on the wing for Forest, but Massey would provide more strength in depth. Perhaps he’s a potential replacement for an outgoing player? Time will tell.

Massey’s contract doesn’t official expire until June 30, so it might be some time before his future is resolved. Wigan have until May 18 to announce whether they’ll hand him a new deal.
