Report: Nottingham Forest could sign winger on a free transfer, future uncertain

|

According to the Daily Mail, Nottingham Forest could sign Gavin Massey on a free transfer this summer, with the Wigan Athletic winger being out of contract in the coming months. Massey is reportedly in talks with the Latics over a contract extension, but he may be reticent to commit his future at the DW Stadium given the clubs being linked with his signature.

Forest are credited with an interest, but the 26-year-old might struggle for playing time at the City Ground due to the stiff competition for places. The Reds have Matty Cash and Joe Lolley who are able to play on the right wing, while Ben Osborn and Diogo Goncalves can operate on the left.

Massey has struggled with injuries this season too, making only 10 Championship starts and being hauled off in seven games. He’s scored and created four goals in a total of 14 league outings (840 minutes), making 11 chances and whipping in 20 crosses.

The Wigan winger hasn’t been in bad form when fit and available, but he may not be a priority signing for Forest as he doesn’t improve the squad. If he’s a free transfer this summer, there may be a slim chance that the Reds consider a move.
