According to Sport Express (h/t Nottinghamshire Live), Nottingham Forest are closing in on the signing of Samba Sow for £640k. The Reds have been thrifty in the transfer market this summer and have now brought in another player under £1m.

The 30-year-old is expected to leave Dynamo Moscow after falling down the pecking order in the last 12 months and could be the eighth player signed by the Reds after Sammy Ameobi (free transfer), Tiago Silva, Alfa Semedo (loan), Yuri Ribeiro, Arijanet Muric (loan), Albert Adomah (free transfer) and Rafa Mir (loan).

Sow is a defensive-midfielder who could be a replacement for Liam Bridcutt and Claudio Yacob – two players who could be on their way out of the City Ground this summer – but it is surprising that Sabri Lamouchi has opted to pursue the Malian international.

Forest are overstocked in the engine room – Bridcutt, Yacob, Ben Watson, Adlene Guedioura, Ryan Yates, Silva, Semedo – and aren’t making any progress offloading the deadwood. Panagiotis Tachtsidis is the only central midfielder sold by the Reds this summer.

Sow would nevertheless bring experience to the ranks, having made 99 appearances for RC Lens, 60 for Kardemir Karabükspor, 57 for Kayserispor and 43 for Dynamo Moscow.
