Nottingham Forest are one of several Championship sides interested in a move for Oxford United defender Rob Dickie, a report from Sky Sports’ Transfer Centre (14/07, 10:24) has claimed.

Dickie joined Oxford from Reading back in the 2018 January transfer window, and has since gone on to make 113 appearances in all competitions for the club.

According to the latest reports however, Oxford are expected to a number of bids for their captain from Championship clubs once the window reopens, having missed out on promotion to the Championship following their 2-1 defeat to Wycombe in the League One play-off final on Monday night.

It is thought that Forest and play-off rivals Fulham are the two sides currently in pole position to secure the services of the centre back, as both look to strengthen their options in defence.

Would Rob Dickie be a good signing for Forest?

Yes

Yes

No

As things stand, there are currently just over 12 months remaining on Dickie’s contract with Oxford, securing his future at the Kassam Stadium until the end of next season, and it has been claimed that a fee of £2-3million could be enough push through a deal.

It would certainly be interesting to see how this one would play out at Forest.

Given Sabri Lamouchi’s side are pushing for promotion to the Premier League this season, you wonder if that would be too big a step up for a player who has never really played above League One level before.

However, at 24-years-old, he still has plenty of time to adapt to a higher level, and Forest do have the options to cover in the centre of their defence while he does that.

Add to that the fact that there is interest in Dickie from elsewhere, highlighting his potential and potentially strengthening a rival if Forest do not beat them to it, and this could be a move worth considering for Sabri Lamouchi and co.
