Report: Nottingham Forest ‘active’ in pursuit to bring former player back to the City Ground

Making a comeback?

That could very well be the case for Nottingham Forest as they are apparently interested in bringing someone back to the City Ground.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, Forest are ‘active’ in their pursuit of former midfielder Jack Colback. The 30-year-old midfielder has recently been released by Newcastle United so is available to sign on a free-agent.

Colback played more than 50 games for the club across two loan spells in 2017 and 2018, scoring four goals and providing two assists.

Now the idea of bringing Colback to the club once again is something that divided opinion last summer, with some very much in favour, whilst others wanted to move on completely from the situation, and it will be interesting to see if the consensus has changed on that matter over the course of the season, especially if people’s expectations have changed following our progress under Sabri Lamouchi.

Should Nottingham Forest consider a return for Jack Colback?

I found myself very much in the ‘against’ camp when it came to bringing in Colback in January, and to an extent I still am now, mainly because of his age. Whilst I was in favour of the club bringing back James Perch at the age of 34, I feel Perch would be more comfortable in a backup/rotation role, whereas Colback would be pushing to play in the first-team being only 30, potentially causing disruption.

So whilst I’m in favour of the club adding more depth, I just think this player in particular would be the wrong way to do it.
