The old saying is that ‘you have to spend money to make money’.

Well in Nottingham Forest’s case, when it comes to this transfer window anyway, it looks as if they are doing things the other way round.

Whilst they haven’t ‘bought’ anyone just yet in the January transfer window, with only Adama Diakhaby coming in so far on loan, it looks as if Forest have to clear the decks first before they can bring anyone in at the City Ground.

First there was Rafa Mir’s loan deal being cut short, which should at the very least free up some space on the wage bill. Now it looks as if there’s set to be even more cash coming in for them to spend, as the club confirmed the sale of Jack Robinson to Sheffield United this afternoo. According to a report from the PA News Agency (via Sportmole), Sheffield United reportedly paid in the region of £1m for 26-year-old left-back.

Despite starting off the season as the team’s first-choice left-back, he has found time hard to come by recently, with the likes of Yuri Ribeiro and Chema taking his place at the back in recent weeks, and given that he only has less than six months left on his contract, it looks as if the powers that be at the club have decided to shift him on rather than lose him for nothing in the summer.

Whilst £1m might not sound like a lot, especially in today’s world where players are going for incredible sums, it is still better than nothing, plus if you take a look at the Forest team, the team has options there in the form of the aforementioned Ribeiro and Chema, as well as potential options in Yohan Benalouane.

And if this is just the first step in revamping the squad so that we can bring in players that might make more of a difference, like helping Lewis Grabban up top, then it’s not really much of a loss to the team in the grand scheme of things is it?
