According to The Sun (h/t Nottinghamshire Live), Joao Carvalho and Hillal Soudani could be sold this summer to raise transfer funds for new arrivals. Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is considering cashing in on the club’s record-signing to allow Martin O’Neill some spending money.

Carvalho joined the Reds from Benfica last summer, costing the Reds £13m. He’s gone on to make 40 appearances in all competitions, scoring and creating 12 goals. The 22-year-old struggled for form and playing time in his debut season at the City Ground and spent a lot of 2019 on the periphery.

He scored only one goal and made two assists since November 2018 and made just four starts in 2019. Carvalho still has four years left on his deal at Forest but his future is uncertain due to Marinakis trying to make £15m from his sale. Martin O’Neill didn’t give the midfielder many opportunities after replacing Aitor Karanka so he may not be too disappointed to lose the playmaker.

Whether Forest get a bid worth accepting for Carvalho this summer remains to be seen, but it does appear that the Reds are open to offers. The Portuguese u21 international may have doubts about wanting to stay in Nottingham after losing his place in the team, so time will tell what happens in the coming weeks.
