According to The Sun (h/t Nottinghamshire Live), Arijanet Muric is nearing a move to Nottingham Forest after Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola green-lighted a season-long loan move for the young goalkeeper. He could be their second summer signing after Sammy Ameobi joined on a free transfer from Bolton Wanderers.
Martin O’Neill has been monitoring Muric’s progress this summer, having scouted the 20-year-old during a European Championship qualifier between Bulgaria and Kosovo, but it’s unknown if he’ll be first-choice between the sticks next season. Given he’s made just six senior appearances for City and NAC Breda (loan), it’s hard to see him being installed as the No.1 pick at the City Ground.
Costel Pantilimon has been a regular since joining Forest from Watford in 2018, but Guardiola wants Muric to nail down a starting place after allowing him to leave on loan. The Kosovan international was second choice to Ederson in the Premier League and FA Cup for Man City in 2018/19 but was handpicked to start in the EFL Cup – five appearances, four clean sheets, one goal conceded.
O’Neill has Luke Steele and Jordan Smith as backup between the sticks, but Muric may be the one to dethrone the pair.
