I don’t know if we should see this as a positive or a negative.

It doesn’t sound like a major injury which could see him out for months at a time, but at the same time it’s serious enough that we will need to be careful with him, and could keep him out of some crucial games at the same time.

Speaking in his press conference yesterday, Forest boss Sabri Lamouchi admitted that Joe Lolley was suffering from shin splints:

“He’s had the same problem in the same period previously, we need to take care of him, give him rest and good treatment. We’ll see if he can train and if he can play.”

It’s not known if this was the same injury that forced Lolley off against Bristol City a few games ago, but at least we have some clarification on Lolley’s status going forward.

Should Lolley be rested for the game against Preston?

Yes

Yes

No

No

The question is though, how do we deal with this going forward? It’s all a matter of risk. Do we risk leaving out someone who is second when it comes to goals and assists this season with 18, out of the team and hope we can make the playoffs without him?

Or do we play him and give ourselves the best chance of making the playoffs, but risk him getting injured further down the road and being out for the actual playoffs themselves when we’d need him more than ever?

If it were me, I’d keep him in the matchday squad, and have him on the bench as a ‘just in case’ option if things aren’t going to well, but hopefully the rest of the squad will be able to do the job without him and keep him rested for games going forward.

What about you? What do you think we should be doing with Lolley?
