Nottingham Forest are lining up a bid for Peterborough United striker Ivan Toney, a report from a print edition of The Daily Mirror (07/08/20, p54) has claimed.

Toney was enjoying an outstanding season prior to the curtailment of the League One campaign back in March, with the striker having scored 24 goals in 32 league appearances.

Perhaps not surprisingly therefore, Toney appears to be attracting a great deal of attention now that the summer transfer window is open, and it seems that a fair amount of that is coming from the East Midlands.

According to these reports, both Forest and local rivals Derby are considering putting offers in for Toney, which are thought to be worth somewhere in the region of £5million.

Would Toney be a good signing for Forest?

These two clubs are not the only ones to have been linked with Toney recently, with the likes of Brighton, Brentford, QPR and Celtic all credited with an interest in the 24-year-old, although the Scottish champions have already reportedly seen a £5million bid rejected.

As things stand, there are 12 months remaining on Toney’s contract with Peterborough, securing his future at the club until the end of next season.

You feel this would be a big signing for Forest if they were able to pull it off in the next few weeks.

It has probably been said plenty of times before but they do need to sign another striker to help relieve some of the pressure on Lewis Grabban upfront, and Toney’s record over the past couple of years certainly suggests that he can do that.

Given the other clubs that are said to be interested in him however, this is unlikely to be an easy deal for Forest to secure, although it would make this a significant statement of intent if they are able to bring him to The City Ground.
