Nottingham Forest have rejected a £10million offer from Sheffield United for right-back Matty Cash, a report from The Daily Telegraph has claimed.

Having been one of Forest’s standout players in the campagin just gone, Cash’s future has been the subject of much speculation following the club’s failure to reach the Championship play-offs this season, denying them promotion to the Premier League for another year.

Now it seems as though the Blades have made the first move in an attempt to win the race for the 23-year-old, with the latest reports claiming that Forest have rejected a £10million bid for Cash from Chris Wilder’s side.

It is claimed that Forest want at least £15million for Cash, with Sheffield United seemingly not alone in their pursuit of the versatile full-back.

The report also states that two others Premier League sides – Southampton and West Ham – are also interested in signing Cash, as they look to bolster their own squads for the coming campaign.

This looks to be exactly the right approach for Forest to take here.

Rejecting a bid that is below their valuation shows they will not be pushed around here, and there is no need for them to be.

With three years remaining on Cash’s contract at The City Ground, Forest are under no pressure to sell the defender any time soon, and you can’t imagine they are going to want to lose such a vital player anyway.

However, with three Premier League sides supposedly in for Cash, there could be the opportunity here for Forest to generate a bidding war for the defender between the top-flight trio, which could see them make even more than they were hoping for from Cash’s sale, which could then provide a huge boost to their own recruitment plans in the current window.
