Nottingham Forest are interested in re-signing defender Kieron Freeman, a report from The Daily Mail has claimed.

A graduate of Forest’s academy, Freeman made two cup appearances for the club as a 19-year-old during the 2011/12 season, before leaving on a permanent basis at the end of the campaign to join Derby.

From there Freeman went on to join Sheffield United in 2015, helping them win promotion first from League One and then the Championship, before leaving Bramall Lane at the end of this following the expiration of his contract with the Blades.

However, it seems as though the 28-year-old – who is valued at £1.08million by Transfermarkt – may not be without a club for long, with the latest reports claiming that Forest are keen on signing the full-back as they look to strengthen their squad for next season.

Despite that, there appears to be no guarantee that Freeman will be back at The City Ground for the coming campaign, with Championship rivals Swansea and Huddersfield also thought to be interested in a move for the defender.

It could certainly be a useful signing if they bring Freeman back to the club for next season.

With speculation around the future of Matty Cash not going away, it could be the case that they will need to add to their options at full-back over the course of the next few months.

Should that be the case, they could do worse than Freeman, who has experience both of winning promotion and playing in the Premier League, which is of course something that Forest themselves will be looking to do over the next couple of years, having missed out in such dramatic circumstances in the season just gone.
