Nottingham Forest are in talks to sign former Reading defender Tyler Blackett, a report from Football Insider has claimed.

Blackett is a free agent following his departure from the Royals following the expiration of his contract at the end of last season, having spent four years at The Madejski Stadium.

Now it seems as though Blackett is close to securing a new deal to give himself another chance in the Championship next season, with the latest reports claiming that Forest are in talks to sign the left-back.

It is thought that the 26-year-old has been offered a contract at The City Ground, as Forest look to strengthen their squad ahead of another push for promotion to the Premier League next season.

In total, Blackett made 122 appearances in all competitions during his time at Reading, who finished 14th in the Championship table last season.

This is certainly an interesting signing for Forest to consider.

Blackett has plenty of experience at Championship level from his time at Reading, and he has shown that he is more than capable of holding his own in the second-tier.

However, he has never really been part of a push for promotion from the Championship during his career, meaning there might be some questions about whether he can contribute to that at Forest.

Indeed, having struggled to really find his feet in the Premier League with first club Manchester United, you also have to wonder if Blackett would be a reliable option for Forest in the top-flight, if they are able to secure that long-awaited promotion next season.
