Report: Club’s delay in moving for Nottingham Forest man explained

West Ham have stalled on a transfer offer for Nottingham Forest defender Matty Cash due to cash flow issues, a report from Football Insider has claimed.

Cash looks set to be in demand this summer following Forest’s failure to win promotion to the Premier League last season, with Sheffield United already seeing a £10million bid for the right-back rejected.

According to the latest reports, West Ham have also retained an interest in Cash, having previously been keen on signing the recently-turned 23-year-old back in the January transfer window.

However, it is thought that the Hammers are currently reluctant to match the Blades’ bid for Cash, which the London club apparently consider such a fee to be out of their current price-range.

As a result, the report goes on to claim that West Ham will have to sell some of their current senior players, before they are able to challenge Sheffield United’s attempts to prise Cash away from The City Ground.

There are currently three years remaining on Cash’s contract with Forest, securing his future until the end of the 2022/23 season, and putting the club in a strong position to negotiate any offers that come in for him.

In some ways, this may be slightly frustrating for Forest.

It seems inevitable that offers are going to come in for Cash, and if they are going to lose the defender, they will want to get as much for him as possible.

A bidding war between Sheffield United and West Ham would certainly help push up the potential returns they could get for the full-back, but at the moment it seems the Hammers are in no position to that, meaning Forest – and indeed Cash – may have to sit tight for the time being.
