According to the Oldham Chronicle (h/t Nottinghamshire Live), Oldham Athletic are planning an ‘ambitious bid’ to sign Zach Clough this summer. The Nottingham Forest forward is expected to depart the City Ground after falling down the pecking order and could be dropping down to League Two to resurrect his career.

Clough joined Forest from Bolton Wanderers in January 2017 and has gone on to make 31 appearances in all competitions, scoring and creating seven goals. The 24-year-old’s last outing for Forest came against Hull City in the FA Cup on January 27, 2018, and his last goal for the Reds was against Derby County on March 18, 2017.

He’s embarked upon loan moves to Bolton (January 31, 2017 – May 31, 2018) and Rochdale (August 31, 2018 – January 1, 2019) (January 31, 2019 – May 31, 2019) to get first-team football and may have to leave permanently this summer – Lewis Grabban, Tyler Walker, Daryl Murphy and Karim Ansarifard are ahead of Clough in the pecking order.

The Englishman hasn’t been involved in Forest’s first two pre-season friendlies against Alfreton Town and Dundee which may highlight that he’s surplus to requirements at the City Ground. Clough struggled for form on loan at League One Rochdale last season (one goal in 13 appearances), so why would he have a chance in the Championship?
