Nottingham Forest have lodged a bid to land highly-rated Gillingham midfielder Matt Jarvis on loan to bolster their Coca-Cola League One promotion push.

The left-sided winger has been linked with a number of Championship clubs including Stoke City and Plymouth Argyle but Reds boss Colin Calderwood is understood to have made an offer to bring the 20-year-old in on loan to the City Ground.

The deal would see Jarvis arrive in a similar manner to the signing of Nathan Tyson from Wycombe, who initially joined on a temporary basis with a view to a more permanent agreement being reached in the summer when the transfer window re-opened.

The fee for any permanent deal is believed to be in the region of £250,000.

Calderwood said: ‘Jarvis is a player we have been watching for a while.

‘We would be very interested in bringing him to the club.’

Middlesbrough-born Jarvis has come through the trainee ranks at the Priestfield Satdium.

He has made 120 appearances for the Gills, starting 87 matches with 33 substitutes’ appearances. This season he has scored five goals.
